Tuesday Tips - Newspapers

Did you know that many newspapers (not all) these days have a "scrapbooking" policy? That means they try to lay out stories in rectangular form so you can easily cut them out! Remember when you used to cut out an obituary, and you had to cut out the little bitty date at the top, then the main part of the article, then another tiny piece where the story jumps up to the next column? I'm glad those days are gone.

If you want to save the content of a newspaper article for a long time, copy it onto acid-free, lignin-free paper and put that in your scrapbook. You can use the actual newspaper clipping, but since it has lignin in it (from tree pulp), it will eventually turn yellow and brittle. Keeping clippings out of the sun will postpone the yellow effect.

You can use tape runner to attach clippings to an album page, but sometimes the ink comes off and things get sticky. Frosted Photo Splits will make things easier, or try Memorabilia Pockets for small articles. For larger clippings, just slide them into a Side-Loading Sleeve and presto - you're done! Or slide into a PicFolio album (Max or expandable Milestones). I like to slide a page of CM paper behind it to make it look nice, like in the picture (that's a side-loading sleeve in a 12x12 album, with a sheet of Discover paper and some wintry stickers).
